Optometrist
Scotland
One job advert will never tell you everything about this Optometrist opportunity in the Penicuik area – but it should tell you enough to know whether it’s worth a proper chat.
Here are 7 things worth knowing:
• Salaries reflect value and contribution. £50,000 – £60,000 base for Optometrists, £65,000 for Seniors
• This is genuine growth, not replacement. The practice is doubling in size, moving from 2 to 5 test rooms, expanding into a brand-new building just around the corner and building a much bigger clinical team
• The practice itself is seriously impressive. Five test rooms, audiology space, a team room and even a garden room for summer lunch breaks, alongside brand-new OCT, ultra-wide angle imaging, topography and high-end Zeiss kit
• Testing times are built around patients, not targets. Typically 40–45 minutes, with flexibility for senior Optometrists to shape their own clinics based on experience and patient need
• Teamwork genuinely matters here. DOs support with pre-testing, scans can be done for you or together, and everyone chips in when needed. No rigid policies, no conveyor-belt optometry (just doing the right thing for patients)
• Working patterns are flexible. Ideally 4.5 days, open to full time, and part-time considered for experienced Optometrists. Contact lenses are shared across the team and the role feels balanced, not pressured
• Staff stay because they’re looked after. Exceptionally low turnover, long-serving team members and a business that paid staff 100% through Covid because people come first
